Parole, Maryland
Parole is a census-designated place located near Annapolis, the state capital of Maryland. It has a population of approximately 15,922 people and covers an area of 10.89 square miles.
History
The name “Parole” comes from the French word for “word” or “promise”. The land where Parole now stands was part of a larger tract called “Le Gardeur’s Forest”, which was granted to Colonel Nicholas Gassaway in 1661 by Cecilius Calvert, 2nd Baron Baltimore. In the early 18th century, the land was divided into smaller parcels and became known as the “Parole Tract”. In 1930, the area was officially designated as the Parole Special Tax District.
Economy
Despite being a small community, Parole has a thriving economy with many businesses and retail establishments. Some of the major employers in the area include Anne Arundel Medical Center, Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA), and Westfield Annapolis Mall.
