Nichols-Bethel United Methodist Church is a historic church located in Odenton, Maryland. It was established in 1842 and has been an integral part of the community for over 175 years.

History
The origins of Nichols-Bethel United Methodist Church can be traced back to the early 1800s when Methodism was making its way into the area. In 1837, a group of Methodist families living in the vicinity of Nichols and Bethel Roads came together to form a society and began holding meetings in private homes. In 1842, the first church building was constructed on land donated by Mr. Richard Gassaway.
This small log cabin served as the meeting place for the growing congregation until it was destroyed by fire in 1856. Undeterred, the community rallied together to rebuild the church, this time using bricks made from clay found on the property. Throughout the years, Nichols-Bethel United Methodist Church has undergone many changes and expansions to accommodate its growing membership and evolving needs. In 1954, a new sanctuary was built to replace the original log cabin, and in 1968, a fellowship hall and additional classrooms were added. Today, the church continues to thrive as a vibrant community of faith, offering various ministries and programs for members of all ages.
Some notable features of Nichols-Bethel United Methodist Church include its beautiful stained glass windows depicting scenes from the Bible, as well as its historic cemetery where many early pioneers of Anne Arundel County are laid to rest. The church also has a strong tradition of social justice and community service, actively participating in local outreach initiatives such as food drives and serving meals at homeless shelters.
