Maher’s Florist has colorful and fresh Succulents to enhance your patio this Summer

Maher's Florist Succulents make both amazing and unique summer decorations as well as great conversation pieces due to the many shapes, colors and varieties.  Maher's Florist offers an array of Succulents to choose from.  Our very talented and professional floral designers will help you find the perfect patio or poolside Succulent for your patio. These exquisite plants are very drought resistant. Because they are able to absorb and retain large amounts of water, the leaves, stems and roots often get a very fleshy appearance. The water retainage allows these plants to survive very hot and arid conditions. Below are a few of the many interesting varieties of Succulent Plants: Burro’s Tail  - This cool plant grows to about four inches long and yes resembles a donkey's tail.  They are not hard to care for and do best in a container that drains well. Crown of Thorns - These enjoy being close to a window to receive about three to four hours of sunlight per day. When its soil is completely dry it is time to water. One myth about the Crown of Thorns comes from Thailand where it is thought that the more flowers that bloom the better future the plant owner will have. Flaming Katy - How about a plant from Madagascar? The Flaming Katy does best when temperatures are between 60 to 80 degrees and they enjoy well draining clay pots. They have dark red, gold and white flowers if allowed to have eight to ten hours of sunlight. Jade Plant - Fully matured, the jade plant is similar to a bonsai plant in growth patterns but it has white or pink flowers that bloom in the shape of stars. Aloe Vera - Most everyone has heard of Aloe Vera. There are medical ointments made from the juices of this plant. People use it for scrapes and burns as well as some cosmetics. Of course it can make an attractive house plant as well with its thick, pointed leaves that are variegated with spots of white. Hens-and-Chicks - Although they have a relatively short life span of three years this succulent produces red flowers in the shape of a crown. It does produce offspring thus the name Hens- and-Chicks. It is said to live forever due to its reproductive ability. Stonecrop - These come in numerous colors of green, pink and blue. Some of them grow tall while other varieties are more like creeping vines. Whale’s Tongue Agave - Native to Mexico, these succulents are typically found in the mountains where the elevation is higher than 3700 feet. They are perfect for outdoors decor as they grow to 14 feet tall. Ball Cactus -  The ball cactus only grows to two feet tall and has the unique shape of a hot air balloon.  These are great for patio pots and produce yellow flowers. Caterpillar Hunt - Hide short pieces of different colored wool around the yard. Let the little ones gather the wool and the one who finds the most "wool caterpillars" wins. There are so many ways to celebrate this glorious day and it is always a caring day of patriotism.  With the opening up of more gatherings things have begun to normalize. In the United States, several states use varieties of both wild and domesticated roses as their state flower. In New York the official flower is any Rose of all colors.  North Dakota and Iowa named the Prairie Rose as their state flower. The Cherokee Rose is Georgia's state flower and finally the "Oklahoma Rose" is the state flower of Oklahoma. Facts surrounding the Rose are many. Below are a few interesting facts: There are only three flowers mentioned in the Bible and the Rose is one of those three. Roses have a long life expectancy. There are even fossils of the Rose dating back to 35 million years. In ancient times, the Romans used Roses for decorations and because of their wonderful fragrance they used them as necklaces. Roses are one of the more expensive flowers and the most expensive is the Juliet. It took 15 years to breed this variety. The tallest Rose bush ever recorded is 18 feet 8 inches. It is located in La Puente California and is a variety called Bewitched hybrid tea rose. Though there is a Rose referred to as the Black Rose, this is actually a Rose that has such a dark red color it appears to black.
